Utilities

In the event of excessive water or flooding, electricity and gas may be disconnected and turned off by local authorities. This may result in an evacuation request as a precaution.

If electricity and/or gas have been turned off, local codes and electrical standards require an inspection all premises before power can be restored.

St. Joseph Township, Indiana Michigan Power and Michigan Gas Utilities work together to identify areas where power or gas has been disconnected and assess the steps required to reconnect. 

In many or all cases, building inspectors and technicians may be required to physically inspect your your home.  Michigan Gas Utilities will require a physical visit to ensure furnaces and other gas appliances fire back up.
